#ModicArt: Letter to the future by Yohji Yamamoto at 10 Corso Como in Milan

In the latest unveiling at 10 Corso Como, a reflection of Tiziana Fausti’s fashion philosophy, the Gallery exhibition space continues to be a beacon for the celebration of fashion culture. This time, the spotlight is on the enigmatic designer renowned for his unique aesthetic and visionary creations – none other than Yohji Yamamoto.

Yamamoto, often hailed as the ‘poet of black’, has long been a maverick in the realm of fashion, defying conventions and reshaping the boundaries of beauty. Through his disruptive collections, he has not only challenged traditional notions but has also sculpted a new narrative for the human form, forging a universal silhouette that transcends the limitations of time and space.

In a collaborative effort spearheaded by 10 Corso Como and Yohji Yamamoto himself, the exhibition, meticulously curated by the esteemed Alessio de’ Navasques, curator extraordinaire and professor of Fashion Archives at Sapienza University of Rome, embarks on a journey of exploration. It weaves together a narrative that seamlessly blends iconic runway pieces with contemporary ensembles, offering a tantalizing glimpse into the evolution and vision of one of fashion’s most iconic figureheads.

From May 16 to July 31, 2024, the hallowed halls of the Gallery will be transformed into a sartorial sanctuary, with garments taking center stage in a choreographed dance of shapes, cuts, and geometries. Each garment whispers a promise of tomorrow, each ensemble a testament to Yamamoto’s timeless vision.

The reimagined galleries of 10 Corso Como, restored to their industrial essence, beckon visitors with a hypnotic allure. Bathed in the ethereal glow of a minimalistic layout, the space serves as a canvas for the exaltation of pure, universal beauty – an homage to the enigmatic allure of mystery.

In a meticulously orchestrated odyssey, Yohji Yamamoto’s message to Milan and Italy resonates loud and clear – a testament to the enduring bond between past and present, an unbroken chain of creativity that defines his legacy. Through an intricate series of installations, the exhibition delves deep into the designer’s psyche, where structured garments and ethereal creations meld seamlessly to pierce the veil of our consciousness, etching his unmistakable signature on the fabric of our collective memories.

In a nuanced tale told through the primordial palette of black, white, and red, garments cease to be mere articles of clothing. They metamorphose into vessels of expression, words in an unspoken language exploring the intricate interplay between the human form and its surroundings. Yamamoto’s radical vision does not reduce the body to a canvas for societal norms; rather, it elevates it to a realm of transformative power, where the act of dressing becomes a profound statement of one’s inner essence.

As the exhibition unfolds, visitors are transported into a world where artistry and fashion converge, where threads of fabric weave a tapestry of emotions and ideas that linger long after leaving the gallery space. Yohji Yamamoto’s legacy is not just in the garments he creates but in the timeless conversation he sparks between the clothing and the wearer, a dialogue that transcends boundaries and resonates with the very soul of artistic expression.
