The group collection of BA and MA graduates from the 2023 promotion of Fashion Department, UAD, Cluj, represents a thorough analysis of several concepts such as modern sophistication, references from fashion history, couture constructions, volumetrics and embroideries, thus portraying contemporary influences through dynamic shapes, but also through a clarity of volumes and styles, visually translated through capsule collections that support sustainability and upcycling. Prototypes from the BA collections were made in the UADFASHION workshop. Therefore, regarding the materials used by the MA graduates, sponsored by the Irina Schrotter brand, they made all the pieces presented from deadstock fabrics. This was a sponsored institutional partnership coordinated by IRINA SCHROTTER, together with her team.

The collective collection is formed from students’ creativity, emotions, nature and understanding of the world. On one hand we have the university brand FASHIONxNBU which has used unique shapes, techniques and silhouettes to represent calm sea waves. Then we have ATELIER VÉREDIA which has taken inspiration from life itself, visualizing the hardships we as human beings have to endure and the path each of us has to choose to take, this is done with satin ribbons representing each decision we make and also the white base used in every outfit to signify that we are born all equal.

The “Two worlds collide” collection was inspired by an image seen on social networks, in which two types of artists were illustrated and the contrast between their clothing and the paintings they create. This image raised a real issue for me, existing throughout human society, not only among artists, which is that we are tempted to judge people by the way they dress, putting certain labels on them. Another source of inspiration is a digital work I made that look born listening to Demi Lovato’s song “Two worlds collide”.

In the collection “Myth. Fairy tale. Legend”, the students analyzed in depth the meaning and relevance of myths, fairy tales and legends from various global cultures and folklores. Each student brought their own vision and creativity, highlighting unique aspects of these fundamental cultural elements.

The pieces in the collection represent special stories or specific elements of mythology and folklore, illustrating characters, symbols and themes characteristic of these genres. From the Master Bird and the Alkonost Bird to the Golden Fish, the exodus of the Jews from Egypt, and characters such as vampires, all elements of the collection reflect a personal and creative interpretation of myths and fairy tales.

The “house shadows” coats collection is a combination of traditional and contemporary, a mix of cultural symbols that create a balance between past and present. The inspiration comes from the issue of migration from the Republic of Moldova, how much it has influenced society, especially rural areas. For the decorations used traditional techniques, such as hand embroidery and the felting technique, high quality natural fabrics such as wool. The designs are inspired by the rural landscapes, the destroyed houses left without care, but also the beauty of the land of the native village, thus highlighting the connection with the roots.

The main focus of this look was to use various knitting techniques. The process relied on using a knitting loom to execute multiple rectangular pieces in various colors. Those pieces were then attached together to create the dress.

The look was inspired by geometric shapes. The ensemble was put together by having upcycled pants added to its fringes from around the waist and on the sides punch-needle rectangular pieces. The top as well was made by using the punch needle technique. The design relied on creating some sort of confusion. This is because of the cuts and the warm colors used yet the yarns that were used in the punch needle were made out of wool.

Yasmeen Ehab

The dress is a couture dress that was inspired from the lines of the coral reefs along with the motion of it. The fabrics that were used were organza and tulle. The organza was pleated to mimic the lines and motion of the coral reefs. The circular balls at the hemline relied on fabric manipulation. It was made out of tulle. The main idea of this design was on how to translate the lines and motion into a dress.

This ready -to – wear outfit relied on merging between upcycling and recycling. The outfit consists of an upcycled pants, added on top of it squared shaped fabric pieces, a blouse and a recycled necktie. The necktie was executed by using strips of denim fabric, hand woven together using the basic weave technique on a loom.

Shahd Bazaak

The ready-to – wear ensemble was inspired from geometric shapes. These geometric shapes were created by using the punch-needle technique. The ensemble is made out of the punch-needle fabric and wool yarns. The main idea behind implementing this ensemble using such a technique was to see to what extent the details would be accurate.

The aim was to create an avant-garde look was inspired from the butterfly. The butterfly was digitally printed and then hardened using a thickening material with the aim to make it rigid. Other materials that were used in the execution process were organza, crepe and sequins.

Nouran Bayoumi

It’s a ready to wear outfit where the top relies on fabric manipulation. The look gives a summery sensation. The colors were inspired from the mountains and desert around Galala City. A couture ensemble, consisting of a skirt and top, was inspired from the Islamic motifs and colors. The fabric used was crepe. The fabric was digitally printed on the motifs.

The couture ensemble was inspired from the Islamic architecture and calligraphy which was executed using a jacquard fabric. The silhouette of the ensemble was inspired from the architecture. The fabric used was with the aim to reflect the beauty of the lines of calligraphy.

Rawan Tolba

Using the Macrame technique, a ready-to-wear ensemble was executed. The purpose was to use different kinds of knots to create the outfit and leaving the hemlines in fringes to create movement in the outfit.

Mallak Osman

The look focused on recycling different kinds of materials in an unorthodox manner with the aim to create sustainable products from unconventional pieces. The main materials and pieces that were used in this look were a carpet, a blazer and some yarns. The carpet was converted into a shift dress. The blazer was cut into a new length and different slashes were made.  Two straight cuts were made in the front while an arc cut in the back just below the shoulders. Yarns were then added to the blazer using various techniques.

The inspiration behind this collection stems from the profound connection between human and bee life, a bond I observed and cherished during my childhood. Growing up, I spent my summer holidays in a village, visiting my grandparents. My grandpa, a dedicated beekeeper, became a figure of admiration for me. His deep connection with bees, his meticulous care, and the wonders that these small creatures provided left a lasting impression on me. Fascinated by the intricate ways bees communicate and coexist, I was captivated by their ability to create illusions through their hive structures and their mesmerizing dance patterns. This collection seeks to embody that magical interplay between the tangible and the illusory, drawing inspiration from the harmonious and intricate world of bees.

The collection employs a thoughtful selection of materials, including wool, cotton, viscose, polyester, and organza. Each fabric was chosen for its unique properties to complement the theme of the collection. Wool and cotton offer a natural, breathable quality, ensuring comfort and durability. Viscose and polyester provide versatility and resilience, contributing to the structure and flow of the designs. Organza, with its transparent and light nature, adds an ethereal quality, capturing the delicate and intricate essence of bee life. These fabrics, characterized by their transparency, lightness, and draping quality, are meticulously selected to maintain the structural integrity of the designs while evoking the graceful and illusionary movement inspired by the dance of bees.

This collection features distinctive and innovative design elements that bring together intricate craftsmanship and thematic coherence. A notable example is using the traditional Shibori technique in one model design, infusing cultural heritage into modern fashion. Another standout piece is a black short dress, meticulously crafted from over 400 meters of fabric strips, forming more than 1000 hand-made loops, exemplifying the labor-intensive artistry of the collection. The collection also includes two outfits with hand-crafted honeycomb patterns, reflecting the natural geometric precision of bee hives and adding depth and texture to the garments. Intricate folding techniques are employed in two dresses, contributing a dynamic and sculptural element that enhances the visual appeal. The tailored suits for women are another key feature, particularly one jacket that incorporates a distinctive bullet bra, merging vintage aesthetics with contemporary design elements. One of the most striking pieces in the collection is a voluminous, sculptural outfit made from layers of patterned fabric. This design captures the fluidity and complexity of bee movement, with undulating layers that create a mesmerizing visual effect, reminiscent of a bee’s intricate dance. Overall, the collection’s unique details and features, such as hand-crafted elements, traditional techniques, and innovative structural designs, highlight the meticulous craftsmanship and creative inspiration drawn from the enchanting world of bees.

We live in a world where man and nature merge into a harmonious whole. The life of bees becomes not only an inspiration but also an important symbiotic relationship in which man plays a crucial role. This collection views beekeeping through the prism of illusion, where each design, with the help of illusion, conveys the life of bees. The pieces illustrate the beauty and complexity of bee life, emphasizing the delicate balance and profound connection shared between humans and bees.

The collection is inspired by a girl living with schizophrenia and her emotional struggle with her inner demons. These demons are creations of her mind, but they act so realistically that it seems as if they are trying to break through her body, to break free from the shackles of her own consciousness. Each garment in this collection is like an expression of that struggle between a girl and her obsessed body, between reality and fantasy.

Collection fabrics, materials: Knitwear, mesh, organza, wool with cotton, crinoline, batting. One dress was done with a framework to hold its shape and clothes were also embroidered with threads.

Through these clothes, the collection tells the story, the entanglement, the struggle, the attempt to free oneself from the demons.

The collection is inspired by dreams, the infinite space of our mind where we can be truly ourselves. The outfits are made of cotton, viscose and linen. The clothes contain unevenly extended embroidery on all garments. These are images of dream scenes that have symbolic connotations. The embroideries were made on the sewing machine, imitating the hashes of various sizes and shapes: linear, circular, elongated, interrupted.

The idea of the collection was designed to offer this freedom in movement, in thinking, in search of one’s own dreams and in dreaming with open eyes.
