Artistry with Purpose: A Display of Social Solidarity through Fashion

Kicking off the unfolding extravaganza with a stirring social agenda, the fashion shows not only dazzle but also shed light on the intricate socio-political narratives that infuse the ethos of the industry. Leading this charge was the Ukrainian Fashion Education Group, showcasing collections borne out of the crucible of wartime struggles, aimed at capturing the audience’s hearts and minds with their unique narratives. The ambitious choice of venue—a bunker nestled beneath Promenada Sibiu—will serve as an evocative backdrop, amplifying the emotional resonance of these poignant creations. Ukrainian Fashion Education Group is the biggest Ukrainian educational institution for fashion experts, and it has more than 100 courses, lectures, workshops, and webinars. We provide students with in-depth knowledge and necessary tools for fashion product creation — from ideas implementation to effective brand promotion in the global market.   We are participating in Feeric Fashion Week for the second time, showcasing new work by our students titled «Existence»: ‘’ We are mastering the highest degree of being instead of surviving. UFEG’s students continue to draw inspiration from the deepest matters through the most challenging times. The future, love and nature, our roots, and the passage of time are exactly what our designers thought about when creating a catwalk show. We carry the wisdom of many generations and boldly look forward. UFEG shows the world the true creator’s power. Fabrics: organza, satin, velvet, suit cloth, mikado, chiffon, polished cotton, knit fabric etc. Additional materials: mesh, acrylic paint, metal wire, decorative beads,  etc. Key features are volumetric sculptural futuristic elements.’’

Feeric Venue, nestled within the vibrant CineGold space at Promenada Sibiu, promises a sensory feast with capsule collections and experimental creations from designers hailing from over 20 countries.

As time goes by, our planet struggles more and more with climate change, resource scarcity and a known model of industry such as fast fashion, therefore, eventually we will have to leave for a new planet in order to preserve our existence as humans. As a result, an upcycled collection was created which was named “YOU BELONG HERE “. On a new planet we will have to deal with a new type of weather, lack of water resources and sexual definition of a garment. The vision is that the clothes and the accessories in this collection, such as pockets for keeping documents or for holding a bottle, a face mask that will help us breathe and at the same time obscure our identity, will set to become tools for us and will help us to survive and the collection initially will demonstrate a confrontation of sexual definition, but in the end the interconnection and the similarity between the sexes will prevail, the female and the male will wear the same design of the clothes and will share the common water source as a symbol of unity and equality.

The project on the theme of surrealism demonstrates unity and cohesion through the choice of fabric, specifically the light gray cotton. Each individual outfit conveys the designer’s personal interpretation and inspirations on the theme, but when brought together as a unified collection, they complement each other and present a variety of techniques and textures that work together, thanks to the monochromatic palette.

Bouquet Bandit is a collection inspired by a real story and a pseudonym of the controversial character of a bank robber, who wears the typical  “gang” vibe and his transformation into a romantic flower lover. The bomber jacket and baggy jeans are street style classics as well as hoodies, hanging tees and sleeves, that express the ghetto aesthetic and culture. Slightly sneaks the idea of being dressed for success with some business clothing details. The palette of dark shades categorizes the negative image and the sense of mystery and danger. The flower symbolism in the structure of the silhouettes hints delicately until the pink triumphs to destroy the established rules and to give a whole new perspective of a gangster romance. The dynamic unfolds in  mania for banknotes “threatened with extinction” in the digital future. I made my own special design of the dollar based on the story character and I turned it into original printed fabric design that presents the money cult in a positive way.The collection traces the metamorphosis of the dollar from its cotton textile nature – the denim fabric lasting over time and trends – to a commercial product for the consumer society that always expects something new.

Metamorphosis is the transformation of human behaviour. Inspired by the different phases of a butterfly. The shapes in this collection represent elements from the cocoon and the idea of the butterfly layers when it’s in the cocoon. Butterflies are symbols of life and life’s fast transformation. Casual style is mixed with sportswear jerseys and inspired by butterfly structures prints.

NEWGIZA UNIVERSITY, Cairo

The fashion project is a collection of garments that reflect the post-apocalyptic era, where the world has been devastated by war, disease, or environmental disasters. It explores themes of survival, resilience, and adaptation, using materials that are scavenged, recycled, or repurposed from the ruins of civilization. The project is inspired by the story of a” muse”, a woman from the Middle East who escaped the horrors of her homeland and became a leader of a community of survivors. She is known for her courage, creativity, and compassion, as well as her distinctive style that mixes elements of her cultural heritage with futuristic and functional designs. The project aims to capture her spirit and vision, as well as to challenge the conventional notions of beauty and fashion in a post-apocalyptic world.

The Funghi project derives from the idea to create a collection inspired by nature. A fungus (plural: fungi or funguses) is any member of the group of eukaryotic organisms that includes microorganisms such as yeasts and molds, as well as the more familiar mushrooms. The collection will definitely remind the unique shapes of fungi and will give to the garment a different aspect. Taking into account the data of the era and the needs of the ecosystem of our planet, the creation of new and the conversion of existing brands into sustainable ones is a fact.

So I, in turn, would like to create a brand that will be based mostly on sustainable materials,  friendly to humans, animals and the environment. Fashion is an important area in our lives and belongs to the industries that determine the state of our planet, so we should as responsible creators choose materials and especially fabrics that will be the least harmful solution for the creation of clothes or accessories. The collection on display in this portfolio will be made exclusively from high quality, recyclable fabrics which are aimed at the zero waste system.

The purpose of this master’s collection was a research of clothing artifacts, aesthetic features and the way of dressing in the 1990’s in Croatia. The three stages in memory process (encoding, storage and retrieval) are the main inspiration for creating a nostalgic fashion collection. The goal of this master’s collection was to successfully visualise personal nostalgic elements and, with a modern approach, transform them in a contemporary fashion design. Fashion collection [grand]-PA is based on a memory, and finding the lost moments of childhood. The photographs of old family gatherings served as a visual inspiration for clothing elements, patterns and accessories. First part of the name grand means something important and large in degree and second part PA has a symbolic meaning for Personal Association which is connected to personal memories and feelings that are used to create this collection. Together, it reads like the word grandpa.

This collection is dedicated to the designer’s grandfather and their moments together that he cherished. The collection is heavily inspired by the seashore and life on the coast. Vicko was surrounded by the fisherman’s equipment and work attire entire childhood and those elements took a big part in designing clothes for this collection. Designer was using a lot of natural cotton materials which are combined with heavy hardwear and embellished with metal parts. For the first time, Vicko is designing knitwear because that was the main connection with clothes that his grandfather used to wear. Knitwear was important because of the tactile element which is connecting feelings to memory. In the last two years, the designer learned how to crochet and later he used that technique as a main part of the collection. For example, a long crocheted vest/coat with the arrow pattern took 4 months to make while a crochet granny square jumper was made out of 84 different pieces. Most of the materials are natural cotton while in knitwear, used yarn is a blend of wool and acrylic threads. All in all, the clothes radiate with a strong symbolic black and brown palette with different textures and materials while the whole collection  [grand]-PA is rich in story, childhood memories and associations on the loving person from his life.

The 𝐻𝑂𝑂𝐿𝐷𝑅𝐴 project was born as a message brand following international collaborations with sustainable fashion entities that proposes a new ethical standard in fashion, functional and with considerably less environmental impact. With a sustainable aim, 𝐻𝑂𝑂𝑂𝐿𝐷𝑅𝐴 advocates stopping the use of fur and natural leather in clothing design.

This year’s key concept is 𝒇𝒍𝒖𝒊𝒅 𝒈𝒆𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒓𝒚, which involves moving in a sustainable direction by reusing 𝒅𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒄𝒌 materials and silhouette development techniques by deconstructing classic pieces such as the men’s jacket, trench, dress and shirt.

So, the theme was launched to the six Art Universities from Romania, where students were challenged to make one or two clothing ensembles, using different textile materials, conventional and unconventional techniques of textile surface manipulation, manual interventions and embroidery.
