#ModicInterview – Manse Jang

Homeboy is something of an outlier among fashion labels. While its signature twisted an aesthetic design and creative graphics on caps, jeans, hoodies or t-shirts, the New York-based brand is one of the most interesting streetwear brands you should keep an eye on. Its designer, Manse Jang, does double duty as graphic and branding designer.

At the helm of MANSE JANG since 2022, Manse uses the brand for his experimental side, with creative graphics outfits that will have you either rejoicing or despairing in the changing room.

His collection Homeboy has bold, vibrant, noticeable design features based on streetwear. Inspired by his cultural background and life journey, he designed and interpreted graphics that represented them. He merged apple and magnolia, which represent his hometown, and apple and rose, which reflect New York, where he started his design career, using his nature-inspired design aesthetic.

Tracker hat, beanies, T-shirts, and sweatshirts more clearly show brand identity by applying intense but elegant color graphics with screen printing and embroidery. The two-toned rework inseam slit jeans additionally display Homeboy’s original fit and silhouette as well as a sophisticated and refined design with a white graphic finish.

What a design trip I’m on – beginning in Korea, then on to New York via Florida! Because of my love of street art, clothes and accessories, I started designing fashion, and later moved on to graphics, which I felt better suited for and was more interested in. Now I am continuing my journey with graphic and packaging design. I am still inspired by fashion design as well as interior design, art, and nature in the quest to create compelling brand stories.” he said.

Manse Jang’s collection has a maverick quality that should quench Gen Z’s thirst for self-expression.
