#ModicEditorial – Florence New Wave

Photographed on 35mm film by Gili Biegun in the historical Palazzo Guadagni Hotel and Loggia. Dedicated to a sustainable cause and focusing on a local production, The Florence’s New Wave is ethically made. A sophisticated choice of materials allows brands to create slow fashion collections guaranteeing a lifetime value and seasonless use. With numerous well established international design and art schools, the city has been welcoming students from all over the world, and while some choose to stay and establish their atelier in town (Leen Dewantari for Kasei Archive), others use the tools they’ve gained in the city and launch overseas (Tawan for Rene Copenhagen).

Local collectives, such as Florence Factory, select emerging designers and contemporary artisans to create collections with a high level of design and craftsmanship that can represent the highest meaning of Made in Italy. The Florence’s showroom carry the collections of: GOR, Bastah, Gatto Bianco, Fabienne Allegri, Laura Volpi, L’Apprendista, Antica Occhialeria Firenze and more locally made brands. Florence’s New Wave designers view their collections as the natural solution for global problems: “The season changes everyday and I’d like to change with it “Romina Caponi, the art director of 16r Firenze, produces ethically and locally made seasonless knitwear made in Tuscany. Swimsuit brand Amazuin is 100% made in Italy and the fruit of artisanal craftsmanship.

2 international brands that hold similar values to the Florence New Wave agenda were styled in this editorial: The timeless Danish Baum und pferdgarten explores the magic of bold colors and prints: “We want to create designs for women who want to have fun with their personal expression. Our collections can be worn in many different ways by many different women. We create clothes that help women tell their own story.” MICO, a Jerusalem based brand focusing on elite tailoring and timeless designs using the highest quality of fabrics.

Art director, Gili Biegun, chose the 35mm film format as a symbolic visualization of slow production, creating a mindfully picked selection of photos that were captured carefully in a physical spectrum.
