Travel Report: Fashion Around Europe, Literally – Week 6
When we first planned Fashion Around Europe, Literally tour we thought it will take us around one month and a half complete it. But here we are! The sixth week of the tour ended and we barely did half and a bit of it. Why is taking longer than we expected? Because our experience is so fulfilling. We meet incredible people and stories along the way and we visit places that we didn’t expect to see in the near future.

The sixth week of Fashion Around Europe, Literally tour is about friends and the South of Spain. #feericteam is everywhere, but especially in Spain, where we have a lot of designers that participated to Feeric Fashion Week and who become in time our dear friends.
The first stop here, was in Palos de la Frontera, which is the home for our dear friend Juan Boleco. He is a bright designer who gets his inspiration from the flamenco traditional costumes. Actually, half of his annual designs are flamenco dresses, but his style is unique.

Juan’s vision of the flamenco costume is different and bold. When he showcased his first flamenco collection, he revolutionised and changed the traditional fashion by bringing new shapes, volumes and textures for the flamenco dresses. Now he is a statement in the local and national fashion, but his designs have no boundaries and he would love to see in the near future the “moda flamenca” also on the streets, not only at special events.
Palos de la Frontera
We stayed in Palos de la Frontera for two days in the sweet company of Juan Boleco, Nico and Jose. They showed us everything around, but what we loved the most was the fact that we got to live a real Spanish experience. Palos de la Frontera is a small but coquette and beautiful village close to Huelva. Here everybody knows everyone, people meet at the bar in the morning to have breakfast and coffee with friends. In the evenings they meet again for dinner. We also got the take part to a special annual party and we had a lot of fun.
Juan, Nico and Jose took as to the best restaurants in the area and we are still talking about the local dishes that we have tried. We visited the museum dedicated to Christopher Columbus and his crew. Christopher Columbus left to discover the new world from Palos de la Frontera and here you can see the replicas of the ships that he used for the first expedition to America.
Very close from Palos de la Frontera is another incredible village. El Rocio is the place where time stopped a few hundreds years ago. In El Rocio the houses and buildings are kept like in the past and the streets have no asphalt, everywhere you find an orange and soft sand. If you want to shoot a western movie, here is the place to be.

After spending this amazing weekend with Juan, Nico and Jose, we left to Jerez de la Frontera. Here we meet our close friends Anna Galan, Ale and Alejandro Lomas. They are part of #feericteam too because Anna showcased her collections for many years at Feeric Fashion Week and Alejandro is our representative in Spain. He is our connection between designers and Feeric Fashion Week.
We spent in their company, three very short, but intense days. We had so many stories to share, we enjoyed good food and wine and we can’t wait to meet them again. Alejandro and Anna took us everywhere. In the first day we went to visit Jerez de la Frontera and the Tio Pepe vineyard, which is one of the most famous in Spain. The second day we went to Seville and we spent the whole day walking around.
Alejandro is so good with the “tourists”, he could be the perfect guide as he shared with us many informations and details about everything we saw around. So, Alejandro, in case you are reading this, if you ever get sick of fashion, now you know what else you could do 🙂 Ah and you can’t imagine how much we laughed. Everything that we said or did turned into a joke and it was so funny. Thank you Anna, Ale and Alejandro for welcoming us in your house and city. We can’t wait to be back, but until then, we will meet you at Feeric Fashion Week.

Vejer de la Frontera
After leaving Jerez de la Frontera, our tour continued on Costa del Sol and we spent one day in Vejer de la Frontera. This is one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. It’s located on a hill and all its houses are painted in white. Getting lost on its streets it’s just amazing.
We stayed at Hotel V… which is a delight from the first step until the end of your staying. Of course, you’ll regret that you have to leave, but the memories gathered here are for a lifetime. Why I am saying this? First of all, because of the design of the hotel. It has only a few rooms and each of it looks different, but they all have something in common: the love for traveling.
The owner of the hotel loves collecting pieces of art and vintage furniture and decorations. As he loves traveling he brought something from each corner of the world. The attention payed to details and the kindness of the staff are also completing your time spent there.
The rooms are spacious, cozy, have open bathroom and give you this unique feeling like you are on your way on discovering new worlds, places and cultures. They have a desk set close to the window and you feel like opening your journal and write there your latest adventures or writing letters to the loved ones back home. Also, the view from the hotel’s terrace is breathtaking and we enjoyed the sunset there. Thank you Hotel V… for this memorable experience.

Costa del Sol
Spain has so many things to offer and we can’t get enough of it. I have to tell you that I love the mixture of the Spanish and Islamic cultures. From the architecture of the buildings, cities and villages to the cuisine, everything is impressive. All the details and decorations found on the buildings are masterpieces.
Before getting to Granada, where we met such an inspiring designer, we made short stops in unique places in Spain. They are a must see if you every end up visiting this part of the country.
From Europa Point in Gibraltar you can see Africa. Juzcar is an entire village painted in blue and it is dedicated to the Smurfs. Setenil de las Bodegas is a small village built under and inside a mountain. Ronda is the village built on a mountain that is split in two by the Guadalevin River, offering a spectacular view from the bridge connecting the two parts. Words are not enough to describe what you feel while being in this places.
We also stopped for a night in Marbella and another one in Malaga. For sure we will be back here because we want to really enjoy the beauty of these places during summer time when you can get the complete vibe and the energy of each corner.

Raul Molino
I was telling you before that in Granada we met the designer Raul Molino who is actually an architect, but he also studied fashion because he was always attracted by it. His designs are unique. You will discover pure architecture created with the help of fabrics and textures. Raul is that kind of designer that when he creates, he doesn’t restrict his creativity or inspiration in order to be liked or understood by the public. We liked him a lot and we can’t wait to show you more of his work in the upcoming book and documentary.
Ahhh, you can’t go to Granada without visiting the Alhambra Palace which is one of the most visited places in Spain and the icon of the Islamic architecture.
We end the sixth week with a playful lunch in Murcia at La Cava de Royan Restaurant in the company of the joyful chef Rodi Fernandez. Rodi likes to play with your imagination, but also with your taste. He uses contrasting colours, shapes and textures to create a spectacle from the beginning to the final of your time spent in the restaurant.
He is like a magician who has always one more trick in his hands that he will use in order to amaze you. The combinations of the flavours and textures are activating all your senses, especially because all the products that he uses are from locals and they are typically for this region of Spain. He likes to cook the meat slowly and to use the crusted salt as a natural flavour enhancer. Don’t hesitate to stop by if you ever find yourself in Murcia because La Cava de Royan it’s a must.
