#ModicInterview: Hand-Made Jeans with perfect fit by BLCV

From fast-fashion to slow-fashion, Ilya Bulychev has developed this special technique of creating the jeans that fit you perfectly, according to your individual fits, in his atelier and he promises that you will find yourself in love with your long lasting pair of jeans. He is from Latvia and he was passionate about fashion since he was a teenager, at that time he was considered by his friends a „night club” designer. From there, things developed rapidly and now, his goal is to shorten the search for the perfect pair of jeans by creating original designs with an individual approach from recycled denim. 1. Ilya, we would like to know your story. How did you start your brand in 2002 and what were you doing before that?
I started more than 17 years ago, when I was 19 years old. Before that I was studying in the wood furniture industry. At first, I was tunning my friend’s jeans. I was remaking them to something interesting by using spikes, rivets, distressing and bleaching. At that time, we were going out at night clubs and for us fashion was important because it was a way to improve our individuality. It was really decorative fashion in the beginning and this is how I became a night club designer with attractive bright looks.
After that, I showcased my first collection at Riga Fashion Week and I started my brand officially. The brand was working as an atelier and we were producing small exclusive pieces for a long time, until we started our Ready-to-Wear collection in 2016. After 2018, I opened the first shop in Moscow as for now, we are working in Riga and Moscow with two shops offering new retail model, that includes Ready-to-Wear and Made to Measure jeans.
2. How would you describe your brand and how is the woman or the man that wears your jeans?
We have mature, intelligent and creative women and men wearing our jeans. They are modern fashionable urban citizens. They are curious about fashion with a young spirit and their age range is between 30 and 45 years old. The brand is defined as a state of mind, BLCV Jeans is a lifestyle brand and those who wear our items are part of it. Our clients are cautious about fashion in a way, they are forward thinking.
3. We would like to know more about the concept behind the brand. How it’s working this made to measure service?
We work like a shop and an atelier. If a customer comes and can’t find something from already made jeans, we take the body measures, ask for special options and produce unique pair exactly for the customer.
4. From where do you take your inspiration?
I like the 80’s and the 90’s, there is lot of interesting was made in this period, as vintage.
5. What kind of denim are you using and where it comes from? Also, where is the production happening?
We use recycled denim from premium Italian greenest mills Candiani. We are producing in small quantities. We make the made to measure jeans in Riga, and some bigger quantities in Russia.
6. How about the market’s feedback?
We have lots of customers that find their perfect denim match and their feedback is a very good one. They become part of the BLCV family due to high quality, affordable prices and forward-thinking fashion concept.
7. What are your plans for the next 5 years? Are you looking to change or develop your brand?
We are planning to become the most popular brand in Russia and also expand to US and European markets with offline tailor-shops and powerful online platform.
